Mountaineering

From the early developments of mountaineering, with the first ascents of the Alps in the 18th Century, the draw to scale the world’s mountains has inspired generations. Early exploits were designed to win fame & promote notoriety for the climber. So why do we still climb mountains?

Mountaineering activities offer anything from excitement and challenge to escapism, solitude and relaxation. They do however require respect if we are to enjoy them for what they are. Respect requires an understanding of skills and techniques, which provide the pathway from the foothills to the summits.
